New York Times Headlines x 12,000

A friend sent me this link to a montage composed of 12,000 screenshots of the New York Times homepage. The screenshots were taken twice an hour, 24 hours a day over the course of a year.

I don't know if it's meant to be a reflective piece or provoke social commentary of some sort, but because the images move so rapidly it's hard to identify 99% of the headlines and it's only the catastrophic events that linger long enough make an impression. Interestingly enough the most enduring images in the montage are the ads.

Cool... but why?
